BAE SYSTEMS ASSET MANAGEMENT WINS AVIANCA REMARKETING MANDATE FOR MD83 FLEET

20 Apr 2009 | Ref. 066/2009

Avianca, the flag carrier of Colombia, has awarded BAE Systems Asset Management an exclusive mandate to remarket eight Boeing MD 83 airliners.

Announcing this new business today, Hamish Davidson, Executive Vice President Business Development for BAE Systems Asset Management said: “We are proud to be working with Avianca, one of the world’s longest established and most respected airlines. This mandate represents an acknowledgment of our remarketing skills which we now offer to the wider market for all aircraft types.”

The eight Avianca aircraft were all built between 1989 and 1992. This fleet of late-build aircraft with Pratt & Whitney JT8D-219 engines represent excellent value in today’s financial climate. With competitive acquisition costs, the aircraft deliver fully proven economics, making them a very attractive alternative to more expensive competing single-aisle equipment, particularly given the challenge of arranging finance in the current market environment.
Avianca awarded the mandate after considering multiple competing bids.
