McLEAN, Virginia — Computerworld has named BAE Systems one of the 100 Best Places to Work in Information Technology for 2009. The annual selection of the top 100, a coveted honor among IT businesses, is based on Computerworld’s in-depth review of the quality of a company’s IT work environment.
“The most talented people in IT have their choice of employers, just as our customers have their choice of suppliers, and we see a strong link between the two,” said Gene Glazar, president of information solutions for BAE Systems. “Attracting and retaining the best in IT demands a caring work environment, a growing business, access to cutting-edge technology, and the chance to truly make a difference.”
The company’s 1,000 IT workers serve 54,000 fellow employees onsite and through regional support offices across BAE Systems. Capabilities include network management, centralized service-desk management for U.S. locations, and integrated management of the company’s active directory services, which connect personnel with technology used to run the business.
"To be among the best places to work in IT, it's not enough just to seek out and hire the most talented IT people, offer them competitive pay, and provide great benefits," said Scot Finnie, Computerworld editor-in-chief. "The organizations that made this year's Best Places to Work list sustain a dynamic work environment in which IT professionals keep their hands on the latest technologies and work on projects that are business-critical. In the months and years ahead, IT is going to become a key accelerator of business growth."
Computerworld’s Best Places to Work in IT list is an annual ranking of the top 100 work environments for technology professionals, based on a comprehensive questionnaire regarding categories such as benefits, diversity, career development, training, and retention. Computerworld also conducts extensive surveys of IT workers. Their responses factor heavily in determining the rankings.
The Best Places to Work in IT feature appeared in the June 15 issue of Computerworld and online at www.computerworld.com/2009bestplaces.
