BAE Systems Detica
The UK's Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre has recognised BAE Systems Detica's pro-bono work in increasing the speed in which CEOP can locate and safeguard vulnerable children and apprehend dangerous child sex offenders.
Using its specialist knowledge in crime prevention and detection, Detica has been working with CEOP to improve the efficiency of its operations. It has deployed its Detica NetReveal® technology and cyber skills to quickly and accurately process vast volumes of information about potential online child exploitation provided to CEOP by local and international law enforcement agencies. Detica's advanced data analysis tools are used to provide CEOP with actionable intelligence on the whereabouts of child sex offenders.
Bespoke tools reconstitute conversations, profile suspects, identify risk factors and disseminate prioritised intelligence dossiers - tasks that previously required CEOP staff to sift through large amounts of online content manually - in a fraction of the time.
With this support, CEOP has been able to cut the time it takes to identify high-risk offenders and locate children being abused. Most notably, by using Detica's tools, CEOP saved 330 working days during the biggest international online child abuse investigation to date - Operation Rescue - which led to the safeguarding of more than 70 children and the arrest of over 130 offenders in the UK alone.
In the future, Detica will continue to work closely with CEOP on a pro-bono basis and use its advanced data technology to make an even greater difference to the protection of children and young people, both in the UK and abroad.
Peter Davies, CEO of CEOP and the Association of Chief Police Officer's Lead for Child Protection and Abuse Investigation said:
"BAE Systems Detica has made a huge contribution to CEOP's work, helping us identify child sex offenders and safeguard vulnerable children. We are delighted to form a Strategic Partnership with Detica in recognition of the contribution it has made to our organisation and to the wider child protection community.
"The expertise, advice and technology provided to our officers have been enormously beneficial during a number of major investigations, most significantly during our biggest operation to date - Operation Rescue - which safeguarded more than 70 children in the UK alone. As we move forwards, the support we receive from Detica will carry on playing a key role as we continue to improve the time it takes us to safeguard victims and bring more offenders to account for their crimes."
Martin Sutherland, Managing Director of BAE Systems Detica said:
"I'm delighted that Detica continues to provide CEOP with such an important service, and as a Strategic Partner I hope we can make a big difference to how CEOP detects and investigates crimes against the vulnerable. Detica is fully committed to supporting CEOP and I am looking forward to developing our partnership further."
CEOP's other strategic partners are Microsoft, the NSPCC and Visa Europe.
