Johnson City Receives United Way Award

02 Apr 2008

Thanks largely to the generosity of employees, BAE Systems in Johnson City, N.Y., once again has received the Thomas J. Watson Society Platinum Award from the United Way of BroomeCounty.

The award, named after noted philanthropist Thomas J. Watson Sr., former president of IBM, recognizes combined corporate and employee giving of $100,000 and above for a single campaign. This is the 10th consecutive year BAE Systems has received the award.

"Time and again, our employees have shown a tremendous capacity for giving, and the 2007 United Way campaign for 2008 needs was no exception," said site executive Jim Garceau.  "I am honored to accept this award on behalf of our employees and the company."
The site's total campaign contribution was $191,000.

BAE Systems in Johnson City also was recognized by the United Way with the following honors:

  • Corporate Challenge Award - for highest per-capita giving for major businesses (more than 500 employees)
  • Home Run Team - the Employee Community Service Fund (CSF) contributed $25 for each home-game home run by a Binghamton Mets player
  • Employee Campaign Award - to recognize per-capita giving, employee participation, and percent increase over the prior year
  • Helping Hand Award - to CSF president and engineering manager Steve Kraly for his commitment, creativity, volunteerism, and inspiration
