BAE Systems Hägglunds AB received the 28th of June an order on the armoured Advanced Mortar System AMOS by FMV (the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration).
The order contains development and production of two prototypes and an option on a number of series systems, maintenance systems, ammunition and preparations for a new battle field management. Hägglunds share of the order amounts to approximately 380 million Swedish Kronor and the two prototypes will be delivered in the beginning of 2011.
The order of the Advanced Mortar System (AMOS) is a concrete result of the government and industry co-operation that started in the late 90´s between Sweden and Finland. In March 2003 the Finnish Defence placed an order on AMOS. This was the first order for Hägglunds and its Finnish partner Patria Weapon Systems. The deliveries begun in March 2006 when the first two AMOS systems were handed over to the Finnish customer.
– The fact that AMOS now also has been selected by the Swedish Army confirms a ten year old successful Nordic co-operation with our Finnish partner Patria Weapon Systems, says Sven Kågevall, President of Hägglunds. – With references from both Sweden and Finland I am very optimistic regarding future export possibilities with a, for Hägglunds and Patria, completely new product to launch on the world market, says Sven Kågevall.
AMOS is a unique and efficient mortar system with a twin barrel concept which gives a high rate of fire. AMOS can be mounted on different types of platforms, both land based and ma-rine ones. AMOS implies a huge step into a new modern weapon system well suited for international peace keeping operations, even in urban environment.
In Sweden AMOS will be integrated on CV90. AMOS is also prepared to be mounted on the next generation Swedish vehicle system called SEP.
