Why is security clearance needed if I am offered a position?

We make a vital contribution to many innovative products and services used by the UK armed services. As a result, people working on many of our programmes are required by our customer to be personally cleared to national security standards.

The level of security clearance needed varies according to the area of the business you work. In general, a 'Basic Check' clearance is all that is necessary, and this requires recent employment and character references, verification of identity and completion of a Criminal Convictions Declaration.

You'll get forms in the post, before your interview. People with clearances from previous employment may be able to carry their clearance across, provided they left that employment within the last 12 months.

Where higher levels of security clearance are needed from the outset, this can sometimes delay your start with the company by a few months. However, we try to minimise this by starting people on Basic Check clearance wherever possible.

Our recruitment team will guide you through the Security Clearance process every step of the way. If you have any queries, please contact our Recruitment Centre on 0870 4149034.

What happens during induction?

Your first few days, weeks and months in a new role are particularly important. Your induction will help you understand about our company, its objectives, your role and our expectations. Induction's also an opportunity for you to meet your colleagues, start to build a network of contacts and friends and to help you to settle in as quickly as possible and start contributing.

Does BAE Systems operate an 'introduce a friend' policy?
