Training and development
Our approach to training and development includes:
- Code of Conduct training is part of an employee training and development approach which helps us ensure responsible behaviour, keep up with changing technology, and meet our customers' needs from manufacturing to through-life care.
- 'Developing You' training programmes build employees' professional skills in line with customer requirements
- Training programmes run in partnership with academic and industry partners. In Australia, for example, the Professional Development Programme for Engineers is run in collaboration with Engineers Australia. Participants undergo a structured training programme, gaining practical experience in a range of roles.
We also work with customers to develop and implement training for the defence industry. For example, we participate in the industry-government partnership, Skilling Australia's Defence Industry (SADI) and have helped launch the Military Systems Integration (MSI) programme, which is managed by the University of South Australia as a postgraduate course. It provides targeted training in a realistic environment using industry processes and procedures.
Our Operating Groups take a strategic approach to training. For example, Submarine Solutions has run an Enterprise Skills Management (ESM) programme to map workforce skills and identify training priorities.
Progress and development are monitored for all employees through annual performance and development review meetings.
