GET INVOLVED

The best way to understand what Corporate Responsibility means to us is to get involved and if you decide to join one of our graduate programmes, be assured that you will have the chance to make a difference to more than just the project you are assigned to!

Below are just a few examples of how graduates have put our commitment to being a responsible company into practice:

TUG OF WAR TRI-UMPH

BAE Systems Warton RUFC muscled up on their opposition to win the annual ‘House of Commons’ Charity Tug of War against Taylor Wimpey for the third year running.

The beefy brace of builders from Taylor Wimpey just couldn’t get the better of them as they tugged in loads more sponsorship funds for Macmillan Cancer Support with their superior technique.

Westminster College gardens was the venue for this all ticket event which has been running for over 20 years and is attended by MPs and members of the House of Lords as well as members of the public.

A charity auction followed on the garden square with tickets to sporting events and luxury holidays typical items under the hammer.

The event is sponsored by BAE Systems and Taylor Wimpey and our winning line up included a number of BAE Systems graduates.

ALL SYSTEMS GO FOR BAE SYSTEMS GRADUATE 3 PEAKS CHARITY CHALLENGE

A large number of BAE Systems Graduates swapped their desks for day sacks and hangers for hiking boots in a bid to raise thousands of pounds for charity.

Summer 2009 saw over 100 Graduates from BAE Systems sites across the country take on the Three Peaks Challenge which saw them race against the clock to conquer the UK’s three highest peaks in just 24 hours.

The aim was £10,000 for BAE Systems sponsored charities including Sue Ryder Care and Marie Curie; national charity that provides compassionate care and support services for people living with serious illnesses and conditions.

As well as training for the big event, BAE Systems employees were also busy holding fundraising events including bake sales and fancy dress promotions in a bid to exceed their fundraising target.

The Three Peaks event is part of BAE Systems’ Charity Challenge, a world-wide programme which has been running since 1989.  BAE Systems’ supports and encourages all employee fundraising and volunteering activities across the world and all funds raised by employees are matched by the company.

 PROJECT PERU

A selection of Submarine Solutions graduates, apprentices and professional staff travelled to Peru in Summer 2009 to join a construction work party with the Vine Trust to raise money for the Vine Trust's Street Children Project. As a team they needed to raise more than £18,000 to help towards achieving the charity’s aim to fight poverty by befriending youngsters and building shelters and schools to give them a better start in life. The team provided the manpower for such construction projects and contributed financially towards building materials. The team’s costs are being met by contributions from themselves and BAE Systems, so every pound donated went straight to the cause (and was matched by the company).
