APPLICATION TIPS
Once you have looked around here, we hope you’ll know more about how to apply for one of many opportunities available.
If you think you have the vision and talent to make one of these opportunities your own, submitting an application is your first chance to show us how good you really are. We receive thousands of application forms every year, and you will need to give plenty of time and thought to make sure yours stands out. Here, though, are a few tips to help.
- When you prepare your application, think carefully about the role you are interested in and your skills
- Before you submit your application, proof-read it carefully, paying particular attention to grammar and spelling
- Use plain English – you are making a case for yourself and this should come over clearly
- Stick to the word limit, compressing sections into shorter paragraphs if necessary
- Give full details of your degree modules and relevant final year projects. Recruiting managers will want to see exactly what you have done at university and how this fulfils what they are looking for
- Make sure you've filled in all the sections of the application and answer each question fully, particularly in the 'Personal Achievements’ section. Your application is screened against competencies, so present clear evidence of how you possess all the behaviours we require. Give specific, detailed examples and answer the open-ended questions – what you did, why you did it, how you achieved it, etc.
Ensure that you highlight any responsibilities held either through work experience, voluntary work or through your hobbies and interests.
Your application will be sifted by what we call competency sifting. Two of the key competencies we are looking for you to demonstrate are Continuously Improving and Working Together.
CONTINUOUSLY IMPROVING
- Can step back, take an overview of BAE Systems position
- Considers how solutions / processes can be improved
- Implements ideas and innovations
- Seeks and accepts feedback from others
- Utilises personal strengths and acts on development needs
- Creative in seeking out solutions/alternatives.
WORKING TOGETHER
- Is willing to co-operate to achieve objectives
- Encourages others to become involved
- Actively seeks to understand others’ point of view e.g. listens, questions & clarifies understanding
- Responds positively, providing help and support to others
- Builds on others’ ideas
- Is considerate to others.
We wish you the best of luck.
