SHARED SERVICES
WHAT WE DO
Without Shared Services and its Advanced Technology Centre, some of the most exciting and challenging projects in aerospace, defence and technology simply couldn’t come into being. We know that we have to maintain the very highest standards of service delivery across a wide range of essential support activities – and we do.
The Advanced Technology Centre (ATC) is the frontline in technology innovation, acquisition, development and insertion for BAE Systems and its Joint Ventures. We take concepts and ideas and develop them into real capabilities that deliver competitive advantage to our business operating across air, land, sea and security domains. The full story about the centre and its graduate placements is below.
We’re here to provide timely and cost-effective internal support and services right across the business in key areas like recruitment and other employee services, technology and engineering, managing BAE Systems real estate portfolio, the management of our global IT strategy and our web-based e-business and maintaining effective risk financing solutions.
THE ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY CENTRE
Working in the Advanced Technology Centre you'll have the opportunity to make a unique contribution to the development of future defence systems and capability. Our research activity covers a broad spectrum of disciplines and domains including; Integrated Surveillance, Electronic Systems, Cyber and Physical Security, Platforms, technology consultancy and technologies in support of frontline operations. With an employee base of over 400 world-class scientists, technicians and researchers, you'll be joining an organisation with a proven history of innovation and providing cutting edge solutions to the company.
Our long-term technology research is focused on areas of key importance to future defence operations. These are supported by an underpinning engineering programme addressing generic technologies such as simulation, material science and human engineering. Some of the leading edge capabilities we are working on include:
- Platforms that drive and fly by themselves, make their own decisions and work together
- Intelligent surveillance systems that optimise the capability of CCTV networks
- Structural composites that have the ability to store energy turning vehicle body panels or aircraft wings into rechargeable batteries
- Sensors that provide planes with a nervous system to 'feel' and detect potential damage
- Secure communications systems that can be rapidly deployed and networked with no central infrastructure.
Our investment in research and technology means we develop long term, close relationships with customers and end-users to ensure that the development and transfer of our technology supports the business objectives. Our business network and relationships include government agencies, academia and adjacent industries. This provides our employees with the opportunity to work with other industries such as energy or transportation to acquire knowledge, technology and skills that can be used to support the wider company. We also manage and deliver BAE Systems technology partnership with UK Sport providing the opportunity to apply skills and knowledge in support of UK athletes.
Research and Development is one of the most exciting and rewarding areas of the business to work in and offers an unparalleled opportunity to develop a broad range of engineering skills in a multi-disciplinary environment. Our continued success in developing and delivering future capability relies on the skills, creativity and drive of our employees. If you want to take on the challenge of creating the capabilities that will underpin the future products of BAE Systems, then the ATC offers the challenges and opportunities you're seeking.
