FINANCE ROLES

Each placement offered will fall into one or more of the following categories: project accounting, management accounting or financial accounting as outlined below. It should be noted the specifics of each placement will vary across business units.

PROJECT ACCOUNTING

Embedded within the project team, the project accountant provides financial support to the decision making process. They ensure robust contract status reporting by working closely with the delivery team, understanding the underlying systems being used and constructively challenging estimates to complete. This role requires a wide range of skills and will stretch individuals beyond their technical expertise.

MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTING

This role requires an accountant to view decisions from a business unit perspective, combining analysis of the numbers with an understanding of the underlying strategic or operational issues. Management accountants can be involved in a wide range of activities from development of strategy and long-term business planning to assessing operational efficiency and inventory management. A combination of accounting skill and business acumen will be needed to succeed in this type of role.

FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING

Normally based in central finance, this role often tasks individuals to work quickly and accurately under the pressure of tight deadlines. It offers a solid foundation of core accounting experience that can be built upon as your career progresses. This type of experience is also a requirement when completing the CIMA log book to gain chartered status.
