"The understanding of end customer requirements that companies like BAE Systems bring is critical to ensuring that the research the University of Surrey performs is as relevant as possible for UK industry"

Assistant Director - Technology Transfer, University of Surrey
Aims of the Investment:
A range of indoor and outdoor surveillance requirements exist that would benefit from being able to focus more clearly on particular sounds whilst cancelling out other background noise
This programme has identified an innovative approach to acoustic separation and will test and demonstrate the systems performance against a number of customer focused operational requirements.
Why the University of Surrey:
Research staff at the University of Surrey have developed an approach to acoustic separation that already operates in near real time, requiring low computational power and able to operate with small, off-the-shelf microphone arrays.
The commitment to maturing and exploiting research into end products and systems makes the University of Surrey an ideal partner for R&D with industry
BAE Systems has invested approximately £100,000 in a four month programme with the University of Surrey to perform the initial testing and evaluation of the capability.
