Aims of the Investment
The ability to identify and authenticate is a fundamental requirement across the intelligence, security and resilience space. The applications include:
- Access control - protecting the Critical National Infrastructure
- Screening - supporting port security
- Surveillance - assisting in law enforcement and border control
This investment with OmniPerception and the University of Surrey will provide prototype capabilities to meet all of these requirements.
Why OmniPerception and the University of Surrey?
OmniPerception span out of the University of Surrey in 2001. Since then the two have been working together on advanced face recognition technologies.
The OmniPerception Affinity™ suite includes one of the most advanced access control, face recognition products on the market and is a significant starting point for this ambitious development programme.
Professor Josef Kittler and his Centre for Vision Speech and Signal Processing continue to perform world leading research in face recognition, key strands of which will support this programme.
BAE Systems Investment In Innovation is investing over a million pounds in OmniPerception and the University of Surrey on this two year programme.
