BAE SYSTEMS Regional Aircraft Extends Jetstream 32 Lease For Sweden's Direktflyg

01 Apr 2003

BAE Systems Regional Aircraft has extended a Jetstream 32 lease (MSN 848) with Svenska DirektFlyg A.B. (formerly Skyways Regional A.B., formerly Highland Air A.B.) for an additional 20 months. An operator of eight Jetstream 32s (841, 844, 846, 848, 854, 855, 857, 864), DirektFlyg of Sweden has leased all of the 19-seaters from BAE Systems Regional Aircraft.

In addition, the airline has also extended the Material and Component Repair and Overhaul (MACRO) programme for the Jetstream 32s. MACRO provides operators a fixed maintenance cost that includes comprehensive spares support for a single fixed rate per aircraft flight hour. Currently five customers with a total of 35 Jetstream 32s are covered by MACRO.

"DirektFlyg's latest lease extension shows the Jetstream 32's important role as an economic aircraft with the ability to offer comfortable, high-frequency service to business travelers throughout Sweden," said Michael Canzian, SVP Asset Management - USA.

"In spite of the problems in the airline industry, we see a number of interesting opportunities in the 19-seat market. With our fleet of reliable and well-maintained Jetstream 32s, we feel well positioned to take advantage of this opportunity," said Erik Salen, Chairman of DirektFlyg.

Born as a result of merging three small regional airlines, Highland Air, Airborne and Air Express, DirektFlyg (meaning Direct Air or non-stop flight) will focus on serving hub-bypass routes between mid-sized Swedish cities.
