BAE SYSTEMS North America Announces Creation Of Platform Solutions Business

BAE Systems North America has formed a new operating sector that combines controls and avionics capabilities to serve a broad range of military and commercial platforms, from ground vehicles to airplanes to spacecraft. The new Platform Solutions Sector will include the existing BAE Systems Controls business and will have operational control of the company's Avionic Systems Division in Rochester and Edinburgh, UK.

The new sector develops and produces electronic vehicle management systems, engine controls, cockpit and helmet displays, and inertial systems for a variety of platforms including fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft, missiles, ground vehicles, ships, and space launch vehicles. Headquartered in Johnson City, it employs approximately 6,400 people at 12 facilities in the United States and the United Kingdom.

"By combining these assets into one sector, we have created an unmatched capability for providing customers with innovative platform solutions."

The Platform Solutions Sector develops and produces systems, subsystems, and products that include:

  • Flight control systems
  • Electronic engine control systems
  • Vehicle management systems
  • Head-up and helmet-mounted displays
  • Inertial measurement units
  • MEMS gyroscopes
  • Navigation and guidance systems
  • Unmanned air vehicle systems
  • Mission computers
  • Launch vehicle subsystems
