WASHINGTON -- BAE Systems has appointed Mark Ronald, former president and chief executive officer of BAE Systems, Inc., and formerly a chief operating officer and director of BAE Systems plc, to serve as chairman of the company’s U.S. Board of Directors. In September 2006, the company announced that Ronald would retire his other roles December 31, 2006 and step down as a member of the board of BAE Systems plc.
As chairman of BAE Systems, Inc., Ronald will oversee a board that helps to develop the company's trans-Atlantic business, builds relationships with the U.S. government, oversees compliance with BAE Systems' Special Security Agreement, and oversees its U.S.-based operating groups. BAE Systems Inc. employs some 45,000 employees in the U.S., UK, Sweden, Israel and South Africa, generating more than $11 billion in annual sales.
Ronald holds the Honorary Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE), awarded in recognition of the valuable services he has rendered to furthering closer trans-Atlantic cooperation in the U.S.-UK defense industries. In 2005, he was honored by the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation with the Semper Fidelis Award for his efforts in support of the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families. Ronald was recognized in 2006 with the John Curtis Sword Award, a biennial honor presented to those best demonstrating trans-Atlantic leadership and cooperation in the aerospace industry.
