WASHINGTON – BAE Systems has formed a partnership with Landstuhl Hospital Care Project, (LHCP) a private sector, volunteer-run, non-profit organization that provides comfort and relief items for military members who become sick, injured, or wounded from service in Iraq, Kuwait, and Afghanistan. Landsthul Regional Medical Center (LRMC) is the first-stop for definitive care— with facilities in Germany and field hospitals in Afghanistan and Iraq.
LHCP was created in December 2004 and has since shipped more than 14,000 pounds of clothing and personal hygienic items to Iraq and Afghanistan as well as hospital facilities in Germany and Virginia. Since many of the warfighters arrive at LRMC with no extra clothing, LHCP donates items such as fleece blankets and sweat suits to the soldiers. LHCP is in regular contact with hospital chaplains and military medical personnel in the field to learn what items are most needed in a given month. LHCP has also donated a blood centrifuge, oral cleansing and suctioning systems.
“We’re honored to be able to support the Landstuhl Hospital Care Project,” said Walt Havenstein, President and CEO of BAE Systems, Inc. “The men and women of our Armed Forces are America’s very best, and they deserve nothing less than our best efforts in return.”
LHCP president and founder, Karen Grimord of Stafford, Virginia, sees a strong partner in BAE Systems. “BAE Systems and LHCP have a shared mission to support our military men and women. With BAE Systems contributing resources for shipping, together we will help meet the needs of our wounded and the medical personnel who give them such excellent care.”
BAE Systems partnership with LHCP is one of many relationships the company has formed with military support organizations. In addition to its long-standing partnership with the USO to which BAE Systems has donated more than $3 million, BAE Systems also supports – among others - the Fisher House Foundation, the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, the Armed Forces Foundation, the Armed Services YMCA, Soldiers’ Angels, and the Freedom Calls Foundation.
