Royal Navy Raise A Cup Of Coffee with BAE Systems to Support MacMillan
United Kingdom. – Thousands of BAE Systems employees at sites across the UK will be raising their coffee mugs in support of Macmillan Cancer Support’s largest annual event – the “World’s Biggest Coffee Morning” on Friday, 28 September.
Employees will combine their morning lattes and cappuccinos with various fund-raising activities and workers at Surface Fleet Solutions on the Clyde have already really pushed the boat by holding a joint coffee morning with Royal Navy personnel on board HMS Daring, the UK’s newest destroyer and the world’s most advanced warship.
The “World’s Biggest Coffee Morning” raised more than £6m for Macmillan in 2006 and organisers are hoping exceed this amount with two million people taking part this year. BAE Systems is working closely with Macmillan Cancer Support throughout 2007 as part of its Charity Challenge employee fundraising scheme.
The BAE Systems Chairman, Dick Olver, said: “Macmillan Cancer Support is a fantastic organisation which really makes a difference to people’s lives. Every penny helps and I'm delighted that so many BAE Systems employees will be supporting this event during their coffee breaks.”
Charity Challenge has raised more than £32m for national and local charities since its inception in 1989. The scheme operates across more than 100 of BAE Systems’ wholly-owned and joint-venture facilities, including those in Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Sweden. BAE Systems matches funds raised for partner charities, including giving £50 for every day “spent” by employees volunteering their own time. The total company contribution is £1m over any Charity Challenge period.
Throughout 2007 BAE Systems is working with Macmillan Cancer Support in the UK, The Australian Cancer Council and The Alzheimer’s Association in North America.
