STERLING HEIGHTS, Michigan – BAE Systems today announced a five-year, $58.4 million facility expansion project to consolidate its current facilities and increase the company’s presence in the Sterling Heights area. BAE Systems will immediately begin hiring approximately 460 new engineering and high technology personnel, and continue through the next five years.
"This is a terrific partnership for all parties involved,” said Linda Hudson, president of BAE Systems Land and Armaments. “The support we've received from the state and city of Sterling Heights provides us with the capabilities to build a larger presence in Michigan and ultimately build better combat and tactical systems to better serve our customers.”
The total capital investment by the company will be approximately $58.4 million in plant and facilities. The BAE Systems’ expansion is also facilitated by State and local government tax and financial incentives.
Currently, BAE Systems operates two facilities in Sterling Heights with locations on Mound Road and 19 Mile Road. BAE Systems will initiate actions to convert an existing large industrial property in Sterling Heights facility into a state-of-art prototyping and test facility. Once complete in 2012, all BAE Systems personnel and operations will be consolidated from three locations into this one facility.
