Adelaide, Australia – BAE Systems Australia presented The Leukaemia Foundation this week with a donation of $206,000 on behalf of its employees.

The donation will help support the Leukaemia Foundation’s valuable work in support of the care and cure of patients and families living with leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders.

The cheque presentation marked the culmination of BAE Systems’ 18-month partnership with The Leukaemia Foundation through the successful Charity Challenge program.

Charity Challenge encourages BAE Systems Australia employees to participate in both fundraising and hands-on volunteer work for charities.

It allows employees to develop skills in project management; communication and team work by being an active member of the local community and in addition, raise vital funds for charities.

At the end of a campaign, BAE Systems’ global business also contributes to the partner charity.

The money raised for The Leukaemia Foundation will be utilised across Australia with the money being put toward a number of key programs including research and providing emotional support, education and practical assistance for people impacted by blood cancer.

“I am very proud to present this cheque on behalf of all employees of BAE Systems Australia,” said Wayne Achurch, Director of Human Resources.

“The campaign has harnessed the values of our company and reflects the generosity of our employees and the extraordinary efforts of the Charity Challenge team.”

“A big thank you to every employee who participated in our partnership with The Leukaemia Foundation and made this donation possible,” said Wayne.

“BAE Systems’ employees have made a significant contribution to our Vision to Cure and Mission to Care during this partnership,” said Leukaemia Foundation of Australia’s Chief Executive, Peter Cox.

We thank the employees and management for their generous financial support, as well as their enthusiastic participation in corporate volunteering, such as being track Marshalls for our Light the Night event.

“Blood cancer is the second most common cause of cancer death in Australia. This partnership with BAE Systems will help to create a brighter future by funding research, and providing practical care to people living with leukaemia, lymphomas, myelomas and related blood disorders today,” Peter said.

BAE Systems Australia is now entering its seventh Charity Challenge campaign during 2010-11, with employees selecting The Make-A-Wish Foundation as the company’s next partner charity.
