Formats, templates & papers
Common formats across all media - online, print, on screen - ensure consistency across all materials. Templates in the approved formats have embedded positions for many of the basic design elements so that these take care of themselves. These should remain broadly unchanged, with the other elements organised according to the underlying grid to create final materials.
Approved printed templates
The majority are created for the approved printed formats in Adobe InDesign and Quark Xpress. Some particular stationery and on-screen applications use templates are created in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. All templates are in the approved sizes and contain master pages with embedded colour, stylesheets, and position for the Logo.
US and International formats
US formats are based on letter sizes, and international formats from A sizes. Do not use any formats (square, for example) other than those specified.
Online templates
A range of html templates are available that encompass the majority of requirements.
When developing a new site these templates should be used, even if that means re-creating in another application. Standard templates are available by contacting the eMedia Team within Corporate Communications. If you need to create new pages on the corporate site and do not believe that the appropriate template exists, then also contact the e-Media team.
Papers
Common papers are a vital part of a strong brand, helping materials to fit together. Coated
or uncoated can be used depending on the level of communication you are using. The papers specified are relatively economic, and have good environmental credentials.
