The Advanced Technology Centre (ATC) delivers ground breaking innovations and solutions in sensors,sensor systems and electronics. Our expertise is providing the lead in the development of next generation integrated sensing systems,essential to deliver a consolidated and comprehensive picture of the desired field of operation.
Our knowledge, experience and solutions span the electromagnetic spectrum - from HF, through microwave and into the optical region - and extend into acoustic and chemical domains. From single sensor solutions to multi-spectral and distributed sensing, our research activity is focused on the acquisition, analysis, interpretation and distribution of information to enhance situational awareness and improve decision making. Our portfolio of activity and implementation covers military and commercial end user applications.
In the battlespace, our efforts are targeted on providing solutions that deliver enhanced operational capability. We are creating sensor solutions that enable rapid deployment and integration of a variety of sensor types matched to the threat to be countered. Taking information from multiple sensors, our algorithms perform sensor and data fusion, delivering a combined picture to improve understanding of the area of interest. Our capabilities extend to the management and processing of sensor data to optimise the combined performance from all available sensors.
At a platform level,we are developing technologies and techniques to improve operational capability. Providing greater awareness in adverse conditions to enable Day-Night-All-Weather operations, increasing combat survivability through electronic surveillance and defensive aids counter measures and platform structural health monitoring are application areas where our sensors expertise is realising significant end user benefit.
With the increasing demands to reduce size,weight and cost of installed systems, our expertise in electronics and packaging enables us to ensure that key manufacturing and installation issues are addressed during the transition from laboratory demonstrator to in-service equipment. From chip scale packaging to innovative 3D structures, we work in partnership with vendors and manufacturers across the supply chain to apply the most appropriate fabrication and manufacturing techniques.
Our aim is to maximise the operational value of existing sensors, innovate new sensing techniques and deliver real solutions to enhance operational performance.
