Small Arms Protective Insert (SAPI) Plates

With the increasing array and severity of ballistic threats on the battlefield, advanced body armor inserts provide greater ballistic protection than can be accomplished by soft armor alone. BAE Systems offers a wide range of inserts that provide enhanced levels of ballistic protection.

SAPI
The Small Arms Protective Insert (SAPI) is used in conjunction with the Outer Tactical Vest (OTV). SAPI plates come in sizes XS thru XL and are used in the front or back. The plates are durable and optimized for fit and comfort. Additionally, the plates are highly protective by providing three-shot multi-hit protection against three different rounds—the 7.62- x 51 mm M-80 Ball round, the 7.62- x 54R mm Type LPS Dragunuv round, and the 5.56- x 45 mm M855 armor-piercing round. SAPI plates are available in standard, lightweight, and heavy versions.

SAPI AP
Similar to SAPI, but with increased performance levels, our SAPI Armor-Piercing insert plates offer multi-hit (three to six shots), lightweight, durable ballistic protection against the same three rounds as SAPI, but also offer protection against the 7.62-mm APM2 round.
