Active Inceptor Systems

Active inceptor systems provide a complete stick-to-surface capability that integrates BAE Systems’ capabilities in flight-control systems with actuation and sensor equipment.

In addition to delivering cost and weight savings associated with passive-inceptor fly-by-wire systems, active sticks represent the latest evolution in pilot inceptor technology that enables pilots to control planes and helicopters by reducing workload and improving performance through tactile cues. These cues are fed back through the feel of the inceptor, which alerts the pilot when he has reached advised limits for normal flight or any given scenario — while allowing the pilot to override as necessary.

Active inceptors also can be electronically coupled, providing all the benefits of traditional mechanically linked inceptors without the through-life cost and weight penalties.

To date, BAE Systems has won all four development contracts for the flight-worthy active inceptor systems — on the F-35 Lightning II, UH-60M Black Hawk, T-50 Golden Eagle, and most recently, the CH-53K Super Stallion.
