Autonomous approach landing capability
The autonomous approach landing capability (AALC) system is an enhanced vision system that enables pilots to land aircraft in low-visibility conditions down to 0/0.
This millimeter-wave radar-based system provides a clear image of the runway and environment to the pilot on a head-up display. Landing in such low-visibility conditions otherwise would require Category III autoland equipment for the runway, as well as on the aircraft. An AALC equipped aircraft is capable of landing on Category I runways in Category III conditions, as well as at austere fields.
