Remote Monitoring System

Providing active supervisory control and data acquisition performance beyond the substation.

Remote monitoring system (RMS)

Remote monitoring system (RMS)

BAE Systems' remote monitoring system (RMS) is a power line carrier communication system designed specifically to use network feeders as the communication medium between network distribution transformers and the substation. The system consists of a transmitter and sensors installed at the network distribution transformer to be monitored, and a receiver located at the substation.

The RMS is the best way to monitor underground network distribution systems. The RMS sends data from each transformer through the network to a central location. This real-time data gives system managers the tools to efficiently plan network maintenance, make network loading decisions, and evaluate possible trouble spots. With sensors installed at each transformer, the RMS gives network personnel a complete picture of what is happening at each transformer.

RMS FEATURES

  • Three-phase load current
  • Three-phase voltage
  • Two spare analog sensor inputs
  • Network protector status

RMS APPLICATIONS

  • Peak load data of each transformer
  • Feeder load data for contingency study
  • Immediate location of backfeed
  • Elimination of the need for feeder patrols
  • Actual data for network planning and operations
  • Network switching decisions based on real-time data
  • Local area and spot network data to identify sensitive contingencies
  • Continuous monitoring of each underground distribution transformer

ADDITIONAL DIGITAL INPUTS

  • Relay monitoring and data interface
  • Water level
  • Vault temperature
  • Vault intrusion fire

The RMS allows for effective management of the underground network from a central location, resulting in more cost-effective maintenance and load planning.
