Terminal high altitude area defense (THAAD)
BAE Systems’ precision targeting business area is responsible for the development and production of the mid-wave infrared seeker that provides homing and guidance data for the terminal high altitude area defense missile.
The missile is composed of an integrated gimbal assembly and seeker electronics. The seeker is the only Endo/Exo seeker in the world today, capable of intercepting short-, medium- and intermediate- range ballistic missiles outside of and within the Earth’s atmosphere.

- Three-element telescope
– 256 x 256 InSb (focal plane array vacuum dewar)
– Gas reservoir with fast cool-down cryostat
– Inertial measurement unit
