Flight Test Instrumentation (FTI) provides both the instrumentation and monitoring facilities for the development fleet of aircraft. We supply our customers with the hardware and software tools required
for the real-time and post-flight analysis of aircraft test data.
Within FTI new technologies are evaluated and innovations made in a desire to be at the forefront of our business sector.
Areas of expertise
- Design, install, commission, and operate the instrumentation systems on all BAE SYSTEMS development aircraft, we also design, install and support data acquisition systems on customer aircraft, an example being the Operational Loads Monitoring Team.
- Operation and maintenance of our ground-based monitoring facilities. This includes the development of bespoke analysis software, data storage and access facilities, the use of real time telemetry monitor rooms and a dynamic analysis laboratory.
- Photographic and film analysis is provided by our Trials Photography Team who use their skills in a number of aircraft trial scenarios from in flight refuelling and stores releases to promotional photography.
FTI is responsible for providing an 'end to end' solution, from customer specification through testing to delivery. Real time analysis is used to reduce the time-scales and overall cost of flight trials. Using our extensive airborne capabilities coupled with fixed and mobile ground-based facilities we aid our Project Teams in the delivery of world class aircraft platforms.
