BAE Systems has expanded its role in gun systems development to include the design and development of intelligent munitions. The acquisition of Bofors Defence AB of Sweden in 2000 created an immediate infusion of intelligent munitions design and production to BAE Systems.
Bofors Defence, today BAE Systems, has a long history of intelligent munitions design for its artillery, air defense and naval gun designs. Current intelligent munitions offered by BAE Systems include the 3-P family of ammunition for its 40-mm and 57-mm naval guns, the STRIX motar round and the 155 BONUS artillery projectile with its dual intelligent armor defeating submunitions.
Additionally, BAE Systems is developing a Trajectory Correctible Munition (TCM) for future artillery applications.For the U.S. Navy's Advanced Gun System, BAE Systems is responsible for development of long-range land attack projectiles and has initiated subcontracts with various subcontractors to accomplish this goal.
