BAE Systems was chosen to participate in the Assault Amphibious Vehicle (AAV7A1) Reliability, Availability and Maintainability/Rebuild to Standard (RAM/RS) Program in 1998. BAE Systems role in this program, which will run through 2006, is to provide manufacturing and logistic support in the manufacture and design of modified RAM/RS hulls for supply to the U.S. Marine Corps' logistics bases.
The RAM/RS version of the AAV7A1 includes a more powerful 525hp turbocharged diesel engine and power train, and a Bradley Fighting Vehicle suspension.This version provides superior strength and improves the maintainability of the vehicle by using Bradley common components.
