Caiman Multi-Terrain Vehicle (MTV)

Caiman Multi-Terrain Vehicle (MTV)

The Caiman MTV recapitalizes the existing Caiman MRAP fleet to meet the evolving environments of today’s and tomorrow’s operations.  The Caiman MTV integrates a refurbished and improved armored capsule from an existing Caiman with a new high-power automotive powertrain, chassis and independent suspension.  These enhancements provide greater levels of survivability and mobility necessary for challenging and unpredictable environments.

Mobility and power required for the future

  • The Caiman 6x6 and its chassis were proven in the urban Iraq battlefield.  The Caiman MTV is an improved design made to perform against enemy threats in a variety of environments.
  • The Caiman MTV features a chassis outfitted with a scaled-up Independent Suspension System from Arvin Meritor, a differential wheel locking system and an upgraded powertrain including a Caterpillar C9 engine and two-speed transfer case combination.  These upgrades allow for greater wheel control and weight transition from axle-to-wheel to navigate over extreme terrain.
  • These improvements provide a much smoother ride and stability that are imperative to C2OTM and ambulance missions, where computer equipment can be damaged and wounds worsened by rugged terrain.
  • Caiman MTV includes an upgraded HVAC temperature control system that regulates the capsule to protect soldiers and critical computer equipment from hot and cold extremes.

Protection against diverse threats

  • The Caiman MTV combines the right balance of armor, weight and mobility to withstand large IEDs, explosively formed penetrators, and other significant threats.
  • The Caiman MTV achieves greater survivability through an enhanced monolithic floor, a strengthened chassis frame and best-in-class blast absorbing seats and fire suppression systems. The monolithic floor plate used in the Caiman MTV eliminates floor separation during an IED blast, which meets the MRAP performance specification objective requirement.

Capacity for special applications

  • With a large usable interior volume under armor and a capacity of 72,000 pounds gross vehicle weight, the Caiman MTV provides payload capacity for specialized vehicle needs including ambulance, troop transport and C2OTM.
  • In the ambulance configuration, the interior accommodates an attendant, as well as a four litter system, which can be converted into six troop seats.
  • For troop transport, the Caiman MTV can comfortably seat 10 troops and a gunner.
