History

Before Land Systems Dynamics became the third division of Land Systems South Africa's portfolio in August 2008, the company was formerly known as IST Dynamics. The formerly IST Dynamics was part of the IST-Group which was established in 1980 with its core business in the military arena.

With the inception of IST in 1980, the company focused almost exclusively on the defence market. With the decreasing spending on defense and defense related equipment towards the end of the 1980's (in South Africa and internationally), the company's owners decided to diversify IST and offer products and solutions to the local energy, telecommunications, mining and industrial market sectors too.

During the following 22 years, the company diversified into several other commercial ventures resulting into several divisions within the IST group. In 1995 IST restructured and all remaining defense projects were consolidated in IST Dynamics. At the time, the turnover of IST Dynamics accounted for almost 25% of group turnover.

In March 2007 the group was restructured into three separate companies including IST Dynamics (Pty) Ltd, IST Nuclear (Pty) Ltd and IST Holdings (Pty) Ltd. The latter was sold to Powertech, part of the South African Altron group and Westinghouse from the USA acquired IST Nuclear. Land Systems South Africa acquired IST Dynamics in order to strengthen its local systems capability.

Since its inception in 1996, IST Dynamics has been responsible for all the military related business within the previous IST group and has grown the business internationally with customers in South Africa, Middle and North Africa, Europe, the Gulf, Middle East as well as the Far East. Operating now as Land Systems Dynamics, this successful track record will be continued.
